東洋人の場合、鼻先と顎の先端を一本の線で結んだとき（Eライン）、この線に唇がわずかに触れるくらいが理想的なバランスといわれています。一般的には鼻が高いと鼻筋が通ると思われがちですが、鼻が高すぎてもEラインが崩れ、鼻の存在感が強くなってしまう可能性があります。
For Asians, the ideal balance is said to be when the tip of the nose and the tip of the chin are connected by a line (E-line), and the lips just barely touch this line. 正面から顔を見たときに、鼻孔が見えすぎるとバランスが悪くなってしまいます。小鼻の端よりも鼻の頭が少し下にあり、両小鼻と鼻の頭とで逆三角形を描くのが理想的です。

小鼻の端から端までの長さは、左右の目頭の間隔とほぼ同じ、かつ顔の横幅全体の約1/5であることが理想といわれています。また、鼻の高さと小鼻の横幅のバランスは「鼻の高さ：小鼻の横幅＝約1.3～1.4：1」が自然で美しく見える比率と言われています。もし、鼻が低く見えると感じる場合は、実は鼻が低いというよりも、小鼻が広がって見えていることが原因かもしれません。
